In today’s fast-paced society, where distractions are all over the place, meditation can be a useful tool to help calm the mind and improve focus. But for meditation to work for our busy schedules it needs to be simple and accessible. Trataka meditation is just that. Its a practice that can be done by people of all ages and abilities.

Trataka meditation, also known as candle gazing meditation, is a traditional yoga practice that involves focusing on a fixed point, such as a flame, to improve concentration and focus.

Candle gazing has been practiced for thousands of years in India as a way to improve mental clarity and spiritual awareness. It was first mentioned in the ancient Indian text that founded yoga.

What is Trataka Meditation?

Trataka meditation is a simple yet powerful technique that can help calm the mind, improve mental focus, concentration and awareness.

It’s extremely simple to learn. You meditate with your eyes open and gaze at a fixed point, such as a flame, without blinking for as long as possible. When you can no longer hold your gaze, close your eyes and visualize the image in your mind’s eye.

Different variations of Trataka meditation

Trataka has also been a part of other spiritual traditions, such as Tibetan Buddhism and Zen. In Tibetan Buddhism, it is known as “Sky Gazing,” while in Zen, it is referred to as “Gazing.”

Over time this meditation has been adapted and practiced in various spiritual traditions, each with their own unique approaches and techniques.
